Jed's Finished Demo

For New Painters / Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Does Jed prepare his canvases with Gesso?
A: He does not. The canvases he orders come pre-gessoed. Here’s a short video that goes into more detail about Acrylic Painting surfaces
-
How do I keep my paints from drying? What palette does Jed use? How do I set up the Masterson Sta-Wet Palette?
Jed uses the Masterson Sta-Wet Palette to prevent his paints from drying out. It’s a must-have for Acrylic painters! Here’s a short video that shows you how to set up your sta-wet palette
-
What brushes does Jed use?
Jed uses Princeton Catalyst Polytip brushes. You can find more about them and why Jed loves them so much here.
-
Does Jed varnish his paintings?
Yes, Jed varnishes his paintings to protect and ‘seal’ them. Here is a short tutorial on how to properly varnish a painting.
-
What color canvas does Jed paint on? Is it always paint on gray or black?
A: Jed paints on a variety of different colors. Usually the reference photo he’s painting influences the color he chooses to paint on. You can find more information about that here
-
What colors does Jed use? Does he use heavy body paints? What brand of paint is it?
You can find a detailed supply list for the class right HERE
Jed uses heavy-body Professional Acrylic Paints by Winsor & Newton. Jed encourages the use of a limited palette. This saves you money, teaches you better about color mixing, and causes your paintings to have better color harmony. He usually recommends:
One red - Usually Cadmium Red Medium
One yellow - Usually Cadmium-Free Yellow Light. It’s important to get yellows in artist-grade quality - they cover much better than student-grade yellows. The other colors usually cover just fine in student-grade quality
One blue - Usually ultramarine blue
Plus black and white
With these colors, you can mix almost any color imaginable!
