What Product Do You Recommend for Glazes?

In our recent VLOG on YouTube you can see how I did a glaze over a painting and used Golden fluid acrylics (jump ahead to 5 minutes and 24 seconds to see how I do this) which is a great product to do glazes. Now this wasn't a step by step tutorial, so I thought I'd explain a little bit more here.

Most of the time, if you're trying to do glaze with a heavy bodied acrylic, you have to add a mixture of acrylic medium and water to your paint until you get the right consistency for your glaze. But Golden fluid acrylics are a lot closer to the right consistency straight out of the bottle. And like I said in the video, the most important part of glazing is not how much paint you put on initially, but how much you take off when you wipe the painting down.

Quinacridone Red is one of the great transparent reds that you can use for glazes and produces wonderful color, and that is what I use in this video. Other great colors for glazing include (but are not limited to) Quinacridone Gold, Phthalo Blue, Dioxazine Violet, Zinc White (a transparent white), and Ivory Black (a transparent black).

Hope that is helpful, and here's to your painting success!
